Abstract

Hot Rolled Sheet Wearing Course (HRS-WC) pavement mixes are designed with a higher asphalt content, resulting in improved durability and flexibility, but are susceptible to rutting. However, caution should be exercised regarding cracking due to reduced flexibility. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Viatop66 in 60/70 penetration asphalt on the indirect tensile strength of Hot Rolled Sheet Wearing Course (HRS-WC) pavement mixtures using the Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) test. The percentage of Viatop66 used as an additive in asphalt penetration 60/70 is 0.0%; 0.10%; 0.20%; 0.30%; 0.40% and 0.50%, respectively. The procedure for making the gap type HRS-WC mixture and determining the optimum asphalt content (OAC) uses the Marshall Method. The test specimen for Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) testing uses asphalt content in OAC conditions with a VIM of 7.0%. The ITS test specimens has a diameter of 10.0 cm and a thickness of 6.4 cm. The ITS testing procedure uses SNI 6753:2015. The results of this study found that the addition of Viatop66 into 60/70 asphalt penetration 60/70 from 0.0%; 0.10%; 0.20%; 0.30%; 0.40% and 0.50% has increased the Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) value of the Hot Rolled Sheet Wearing Course (HRS-WC) pavement mixture by 9.24%; 12.50%; 17.90%; 18.69% and 19.67% respectively against 0.0% Viatop66.
